As you probably heard, Ohio State finished the season ranked third in the Associated Press poll. I am one of 60 AP voters, so in the interest of full disclosure I m making my picks public here and giving an explanation.Ohio State is the only undefeated team in the country following Alabama s win over Notre Dame, but anyone who saw the Crimson Tide s domination last night shouldn t dispute that the Tide should be No. 1.I ve had Ohio State ranked second for a few weeks, and I m comfortable with the Buckeyes remaining there. I considered moving Oregon ahead of the Buckeyes, but an undefeated season should make that a pretty steep wall to climb for {keyword} someone else to overtake them. Only Alabama did that to my satisfaction, though I wouldn t quibble with anyone who had the Ducks No. 2.I figured that last night s loser would drop no further than to No. 3 or 4, but Notre Dame was exposed. So I moved Texas A M ahead of the Irish, based on their win at Alabama and their impressive bowl win.Georgia and Stanford were a tossup for the next spot, and South Carolina and Clemson were in the mix, too. Maybe the biggest riser for me was Louisville. I was a Cardinals skeptic most of the year, but their dismantling of Florida changed that. The second 10 teams came together reasonably easy, though it was hard to differentiate some of them.Things got real tricky at the bottom of the poll, as it was most of the year. There really were not 25 teams deserving of a ranking. The final three were particularly tough. I ranked Cincinnati, for what I think was the first time all season. For the final two Nebraska and Michigan I really had to hold my nose. Nebraska s defense collapsed in all of their losses, and the Wolverines lost five times. But at least Michigan s losses were all against good teams.I also considered Penn State, Baylor, Central Florida, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Kent State. But all had deficiencies too large to ignore. For those who followed my picks and gave (usually) constructive criticism, thanks for your interest. I can speak for all the voters in saying that we put a lot of thought and effort into our poll, usually fter working long days and with our minds fried. But I never stopp {keyword} ed thinking of having one of the 60 ballots as anything but a privilege that I had a responsibility to uphold. Here s my complete final ballot:&nb {keyword} sp;1. Alabama2. Ohio State 3. Oregon4. Texas A M5. Notre Dame6. Georgia7. Stanford8. South Carolina 9. Clemson10. Louisville11. The Blue Jackets have finalized their 23-man roster a day early: center Boone Jenner was returned to his junior club in Oshawa (OHL) a {keyword} nd defenseman Tim Erixon was sent back to AHL Springfield.NHL rosters must be set by 3 p.m. Friday., so there's still time for changes. But the Blue Jackets are legal -- 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders -- for Saturday night's season opener in Nashville against the Central Division-rival Predators.Jenner, a se {keyword} cond-round pick in 2011, will almost certainly finish his season i {keyword} n the OHL. If Oshawa is eliminated early from the OHL playoffs, he could see late-season action with the Blue Jackets.Erixon is almost certain to return to Columbus at some point this season. He and Nick Holden should be seen as the organizations No. 8 and 9 defensemen."Tough decision," Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. "They both deserve to be here. They both showed that they can play here.
